Synopsis: Good Friday falls on April 18 this year, and banks in most Indian states will remain closed in observance of the Christian holiday. However, some states will continue banking operations as usual—check the full list here.

As Good Friday 2025 approaches, many citizens are wondering whether banks will remain open or closed on April 18. Good Friday is a significant Christian observance marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and is considered a solemn public holiday in many parts of India.

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday calendar, banks will remain closed in most Indian states on April 18. However, not all regions will observe the holiday. Banking operations will continue as usual in Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Srinagar, and Himachal Pradesh, where Good Friday is not considered an official bank holiday.

For residents in states where banks will be shut, it is advisable to finish any urgent banking activities before the holiday. Banks will resume operations on Saturday, April 19, which is a working day (third Saturday of the month), followed by a Sunday closure on April 20.

Despite physical branches being closed in several areas, customers can still access core banking services via:

  • ATMs
  • Mobile Banking
  • Internet Banking
  • UPI and other digital payment systems

These digital services will remain uninterrupted, ensuring convenience even during the holiday.

Upcoming Bank Holidays in April 2025:

  • April 21 – Garia Puja (Tripura)
  • April 29 – Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Jayanti (Himachal Pradesh)
  • April 30 – Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya (Karnataka)

If you're planning any banking work this month, keeping track of regional holidays can help you avoid last-minute hassles.
