Germany remains committed to drawing skilled professionals from India, placing a special emphasis on nurses.

During the G20 meeting in India, German Labour Minister Hubertus Heil took the opportunity to meet with qualified nurses in Thiruvananthapuram, as part of an ongoing global recruitment drive to attract more skilled workers to Germany.

Since 2022, the German Federal Employment Agency and the German Society for International Cooperation have been actively recruiting nursing personnel from Kerala.

Healthcare is merely one of the sectors grappling with a labor shortage in the country.

"In the long run, our goal is to achieve international comparability and acknowledgment of qualifications," stated Heil, as he highlighted the purpose of his trip to India - to explore the potential for skilled workers and promote Germany as an alluring destination with excellent working and living conditions.

To facilitate this endeavor, the German government has implemented relaxed visa regulations and a streamlined process for recognizing foreign qualifications. These measures are intended to simplify the entry and integration of skilled professionals, making Germany a more attractive option for Indian nurses contemplating work opportunities in the country.

In February, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed the country's commitment to simplifying work visa regulations for Indian IT experts due to the high demand for software development expertise.

As part of the plan, Germany aims to modernize the visa-issuing process and introduce more lenient regulations, making the country a more attractive destination for skilled Indian IT workers.

To achieve this goal, Germany has recently passed a new law that will be put into effect on March 1, 2024. This law promises to streamline and facilitate the entry of skilled workers from third countries, providing easier access for them to come to Germany for work purposes.

The German government's efforts to entice skilled workers from India have proven fruitful, as indicated by the latest government data. Over the past year, Germany granted more than 14,000 work visas to Indian nationals, showcasing a significant increase compared to previous years.
