On Monday, Hyundai Motor India introduced its affordable SUV, 'Exter,' targeting the compact SUV segment and aiming to attract buyers in this category.
The price range for the Exter starts from Rs 5.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.32 lakh for the top variant. This places it in direct competition with Tata Motors Ltd.'s Punch, which is priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.51 lakh.
While Hyundai's Creta has successfully maintained its position in the mid-size SUV market despite numerous launches from major auto companies, other models in Hyundai's portfolio have not experienced the same level of success.
Hyundai aims to replicate the success of its Creta model in the compact SUV segment with the launch of the Exter.
In FY23, SUVs accounted for approximately 43% of the overall car market, and this figure rose to nearly 47% during the period from January to June 2023. While the overall market is expected to grow at a rate of 5-7% in the current fiscal year, SUVs are anticipated to outpace this growth once again.
The sub-four-metre Exter is equipped with notable features, including six airbags, a 4.2-inch digital display in the instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an electric sunroof. Safety features such as hill assist control, electronic stability control, and vehicle stability management are also incorporated into the vehicle.
